Customers of Castleton bridal store sent scrambling after business abruptly closes

One woman told 13News she was supposed to pick up her wedding dress at Gretchen's Bridal Gallery this week and fears she could be out of thousands of dollars.

INDIANAPOLIS — Brides hoping to pick up their wedding gowns and accessories at Gretchen's Bridal Gallery were instead greeted with a no trespassing sign and one that provided instructions for delivery drivers.

The lights are off and the doors are locked, but if you look through the window, you'll see hundreds of dresses.

According to a former employee and a neighboring business that subleases from Gretchen's, the store abruptly closed on Saturday.

When customers call the store, they get a message that says the number is unavailable.

The bridal store's website appears to have been taken down and the door sign says the landlord has taken possession of the space and changed the locks.

It's leaves customers like Melody Personette with no way to contact the the business.

"I called them all day. I checked on Google and it says they were permanently closed. I thought that's kind of weird. Then when I kept calling and it said it was disconnected I was like, 'That's kind of weird,'" said Personette.

Personette was expecting to pick up a gown this week for her September wedding. She thought she had done everything right to make her engagement as stress-free as possible, including purchasing the dress from Gretchen's Bridal in January.

"I was like, 'I have to find one that nothing else can top,'" Personette said.

She never imagined not walking down the aisle in that dress, but after several unsuccessful attempts to contact the owners of the business, she had to scramble to find another gown.

"I just can't believe that happened to me. It's very frustrating. It's very upsetting. I gave myself that ample amount of time," said Personette.

She left with a lot of questions - and she's out $1,500.

"I'm like, 'Are we even going to get our money back and also not get the dress?' I don't know, because you can't contact anybody. They're not answering," Personette said.

13News has reached out to the owner of the business, the store manager and the landlord, but have not heard back.
