Ambulance flips in crash at north Indy intersection

The Pike Township Fire Department said no one was seriously injured in the crash at West 86th Street and Michigan Road.

INDIANAPOLIS — A Pike Township ambulance will be out of service indefinitely after flipping in a crash on Indy's northwest side Sunday. 

According to the Pike Township Fire Department, ambulance unit No. 63 was dispatched to what turned out to be a car fire on 86th Street shortly before noon Nov. 12. 

As the ambulance was driving through the intersection of West 86th Street and Michigan Road, another vehicle crossed the intersection and crashed into the ambulance. The crash flipped the ambulance on its side.

The Pike Township Fire Department said the driver of the vehicle that hit the ambulance was not injured in the crash. The EMT and paramedic that were in the ambulance at the time were transported to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital for precautionary reasons and do not appear to have any significant injuries.
