INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman was arrested after allegedly stealing her Lyft driver's car, trying to slit his throat and leading police on a car chase

IMPD was dispatched to investigate an in-progress stolen vehicle on the 3000 block of North Franklin Road, near East 30th Street on Indy's far east side, around 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. When officers arrived on scene, they said they discovered it was an armed carjacking with injuries instead.

According to court documents, the victim told police he was picking up a woman, later identified as Kelly Shaw, at the intersection of East 38th Street and North Mitthoefer Road.

The victim told police when he picked Shaw up, she told him to go to a nearby laundry mat, located on the 9900 block of East 38th St. Shaw went inside the laundry mat and told the victim she was going to get some money. She later returned back and sat in the back seat.

Documents say Shaw told the victim to drive her to the 2000 block of North Shadeland Ave. As the victim was driving Shaw to the address, she was looking for something inside her bag. The victim told police Shaw was allegedly "cussing" and "agitated visibly."

Court documents say Shaw then asked the victim to stop the car; however, the victim told Shaw that he was driving her to the address that she gave him earlier. A moment later, Shaw pulled out a knife from her bag and allegedly placed it on the victim's throat, trying to slit it.

Documents say a physical altercation erupted in the car between the victim and Shaw. The victim eventually pulled his vehicle into a nearby gas station and jumped out. Shaw then allegedly got into the driver's seat and drove away, heading eastbound on East 30th Street.

The victim told police his wallet and credit card were still inside the vehicle.

Court documents say the victim was able to flag down a person at the gas station for help. Police said the victim had minor injuries and bleeding on the right side of his face, with no visible injuries to his throat.

On Sunday, Oct. 6, the Lawrence Police Department was patrolling when they were notified of the carjacking vehicle headed north on the 4500 block of North Post Road. Police spotted the car in a parking lot on the 9500 block of Pendleton Pike and tried to stop it.

The vehicle didn't stop, so police said a car chase ensued until they reached the area of North Post Road and Briergate Court.

Documents say officers ordered Shaw to get out of the vehicle with her hands up, and eventually she complied. Shaw allegedly moved her hands around her waist area, to which police gave her more commands to put her hands up. She continued to refuse, so officers tased her.

Shaw was charged with resisting law enforcement using a vehicle. Online court records indicate she has a pretrial conference scheduled for Nov. 14.
