Coroner confirms Perry Township school teacher died after accidental fall

Megan Woodward, who taught school in Perry Township, passed away following a fall that resulted in a head injury.

SOUTHPORT, Ind. (WTHR) - The Marion County Coroner has called the tragic death of a Perry Township teacher an accident.

Megan Woodward, an English teacher and dance coach at Southport High School, passed away following a fall that resulted in a head injury.

Perry Township Schools said she fell Thursday evening as students and staff were decorating homecoming floats.

The coroner ruled her death an accident on Saturday. She suffered blunt force trauma Thursday, and did not recover.

The Perry Township School District issued a statement, calling Woodward an amazing educator.

The district is providing counseling for Woodward's coworkers and students to help them with their grieving.

We grieve, as well. Woodward's husband, Wes, is a longtime member of the Indianapolis news media who worked at Eyewitness News.

We will pass along plans for the celebration of her life when they are made public.

A Gofundme account has been set up for Woodward's family.
