Construction worker hit, killed by dump truck in Tippecanoe County

A preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that a dump truck was backing up within the worksite when the truck hit the worker.

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — A construction worker was killed Friday after they were struck by a dump truck in Tippecanoe County.

According to a release from the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, shortly after noon on Friday, May 31, officers responded to the area of US 231 South and County Road 800 South on a report of a person hit by a vehicle. 

First responders arrived on the scene and found a construction worker with critical injuries after reportedly being struck by a dump truck within a work zone. The worker was transported to IU Health Arnett Hospital where they later died. 

A preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that a Mack dump truck, being driven by a 39-year-old Monticello man, was backing up within the worksite when the truck struck the worker. 

The victim's identity will be released once family has been notified. The incident is currently under investigation by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office, Coroner's Office and Indiana State Police.
