Northwest Indy community center opens with focus on health and wellness, financial literacy and workforce development program offerings

The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

INDIANAPOLIS — A new community center is open on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

The International District Community Center is part of a project to revitalize the area near the former Lafayette Square Mall.

The facility opened its doors for the first time Tuesday morning.

The 14,000-square-foot campus will give neighbors access to educational resources, financial wellness programs, youth events and more.

Moving forward, organizers hope it will help bring positive change to this area through community connection.

"The community center's role in all of that is to ensure that we are providing all the resources that go along with a healthy and safe community. We're focusing on health and wellness, financial literacy, workforce development and all those contribute to a healthy and happy and safe community," said executive director Abby Harlan.

The International District Community Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.
