Who would have thought it - the Indianapolis Colts mascot, an author?
Turns out Blue is a horse of many colorful talents. Thursday, he began a five-school book tour to promote his new children's book, Blue's Road Trip Thru Indiana. It highlights the mascot's favorite places from A to Z.
He debuted it during a reading at Wendell Phillips School Thursday afternoon to a gymnasium full of students.
Colts Vice Chair and owner Kalen Irsay read the book, while Blue "illustrated" it, acting out his favorite places.
He teed up a drive for French Lick, wore a tent for Turkey Run State Park and rode a tricycle for "X-Marks the spot," for the rails to trails Monon Trail.
Blue's book got great reviews.
Selina Villaneuva, a third grader, said, "I thought it was weird and funny. And the book was fascinating....if little children don't know the alphabet, they can learn from Blue's book."
Journee Collins, also a third grader, agreed. "He's very silly because he's acting out everything. What made it a good book is because he was acting out what was happening in the story."
Blue's tour is timed with Read Across America Week. He has four more stops at Indiana schools through next week.
