INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – Colts center Ryan Kelly knows a thing or two about rings. He won a few in college at the University of Alabama.
But on May 1, Kelly gave away the most important ring of his life, proposing to his girlfriend Emma Zieverink.
"I was nervous," Ryan Kelly admits. "I never doubted she was gonna say yes but it was just an emotional feeling that comes through you."
Surprising your significant other can be tough, but it’s even tougher during quarantine. Kelly enlisted Zieverink’s friends to lure her out of the house.
"I had no idea," Zieverink admits.
Kelly had fellow Colts offensive lineman Mark Glowinski help decorate while she was gone and had Braden Smith’s wife, Courtney, as the photographer. He set up rose petals and candles in the backyard, leading up to their dock.
“I figured the dock was an incredible place to do it,” Kelly said. “I don’t know if we’ll stay here forever but this will always be our first house together.”
The surprise went off without a hitch and, of course, she said yes.
They plan to get married on May 1, 2021, the same date of their engagement.
“Way better than I could’ve ever planned or dreamed myself,” says Zieverink.
