EDINBURGH, Ind. — A group of organized civilians in Indiana is calling for the help of local plane owners to assist with relief efforts in North Carolina.
Based out of Edinburgh, the Civilian Crisis Response Team (CCRT) works to help people during their times of greatest needs. Right now, the greatest need is in North Carolina for the people who are trapped by historic floods after Hurricane Helene left a trail of destruction across the U.S.
The CCRT is now urging plane owners to offer up their aircraft to ferry supplies to residents in need in Hickory, North Carolina.
At least 91 people across several states have been confirmed dead, and 30 of those victims comes from a county in the mountain city of Asheville.
More than 2 million homeowners and other utility customers were still without power Sunday night. South Carolina had the most outages, and Gov. Henry McMaster asked for patience as crews dealt with widespread snapped power poles.
“We want people to remain calm. Help is on the way — it is just going to take time,” McMaster told reporters outside the airport in Aiken County.
If you're interested in helping, the CCRT is asking to contact them privately on Facebook.
Indiana Task Force 1 will also be assisting in Asheville after the crew announced its plans to deploy Monday.
