INDIANAPOLIS — The Circle City Classic is returning to Lucas Oil Stadium for its 40th year.
This is the annual football game between two HBCU schools. This year, the game will feature a matchup between North Carolina Central University and Norfolk State University on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.
There will be a variety of events that lead up to the game, including the Circle City Classic coronation to the education day party, to the talent day career fair, to the Greek stroll competition.
There will also be a "Battle of the Bands" between the North Carolina Central University Sound Machine Marching Band and the Norfolk State University Spartan "Legion" Marching Band.
“The Circle City Classic this year will be special as it not only brings competitive HBCU football to Indianapolis, but this is the 40th anniversary,” said Alice Watson, CEO and president of Indiana Black Expo. “We are so proud of the 40 years of impact and history that this event has made in our community and throughout the Midwest.”

Who is the Grand Marshall?
The Indiana Black Expo named actor/recording artist Jacob Latimore as the Grand Marshall for the 40th Circle City Classic Parade.
The parade will take place on Sept. 28 at 10 a.m. in downtown Indianapolis.
Event officials said Latimore has been recognized by industry publications as a "breakout star" and one of the "top young talents" in Hollywood.
He has acted in films such as "Black Nativity," "Ride Along," "The Maze Runner," and "Detroit," as well as a starring role in the SHOWTIME series "The Chi."
"We are honored to have Jacob Latimore serve as the Grand Marshal for the 40th Circle City Classic Parade," Watson said. "His talent, passion, and commitment to excellence make him an inspiration for young people everywhere. We look forward to celebrating his achievements and contributions during this milestone event."
The president's reception gala
The president's reception gala for the event will take place on Sept. 27 in the Indiana Roof Ballroom.
"Join us in celebrating 40 years of extraordinary impact, exposing youth to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and post-secondary educational institutions across the state," said Dian Foreman, a spokesperson for the Indiana Black Expo. "The Gala celebrates our purpose and our partners, and all proceeds will assist in scholarships awarded to deserving students."
The entertainment will feature R&B singer/songwriter Will Downing, host Joe Torry, Indianapolis’ own R&B saxophonist Bryan Thompson.
Metta World Peace to receive Major Tony Award
At the event, Metta World Peace – born Ronald William Artest Jr. – will be receiving the Major Tony Award on Sept. 27 from 11:30 a.m.- 1 p.m. The former Indiana Pacers star is recognized as one of the best defenders in NBA history.
Event officials said the award is "presented to an African American athlete, coach, athletics administrator, or official who has made significant local and national contributions to youth while also encouraging excellence in future generations."
Past recipients of the award include Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Muhammad Ali, Jerry Rice, Tommie Smith, John Carlos, Coach Tony Dungy, Tamika Catchings and Robert Mathis.
How can I get tickets?
Since it's the event's 40th anniversary, customers who purchase a $20 ticket will receive an additional ticket for free, while supplies last.
