INDIANAPOLIS — There was a big party with hundreds of people at the Indianapolis Colts Complex Friday.
The Chuckstrong Tailgate Gala is an annual event that raises awareness and money for cancer research.
13News caught up not only with former head coach Chuck Pagano, but also former quarterback Andrew Luck.
They both said it was great to be back in Indianapolis for a great cause.
"It's great. I get excited coming back to this building," Luck said. "I get excited seeing Colts stuff and the horseshoe and seeing familiar faces. There's still a "turn in" that feels real, that's what we did for so many years. So, it's fun to support, fun to give back, just like Chuck is giving back to this community."
"Never imagined we'd be sitting here 12 years later with $14 million raised," Pagano said.
This is the 12th year for the gala benefitting the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.
"All too often, members of our Colts family need the services of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center," said Pete Ward, chief operating officer of the Indianapolis Colts. "We appreciate that the center's research focus means that Hoosiers have access to cutting-edge care. We are honored to help raise funds for research that leads to better outcomes for patients in Indiana and around the world."
Some of the event's 400 guests included Colts fans, cancer survivors and supporters of cancer research supporters
"Our many generous supporters truly serve as the 12th man for the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center by joining us in the belief that research cures cancer," said Dr. Kelvin Lee, director of the cancer center. "I'm thankful to the Colts for their generosity and the broad community support at Chuckstrong that will make an immediate impact to advance cancer research."
