Christmas decorations vandalized at East Thompson Road home

A single mother of two is refusing to let the Grinch who tore down some of her Christmas decorations take away her holiday spirit.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – A single mother of two is refusing to let the Grinch who tore down some of her Christmas decorations take away her holiday spirit.

"This Christmas might be hard on us because my father just passed away," said Heather Green.

That didn't stop Heather Green though from decorating her East Thompson Street house for the holidays this year.

"Being a single mom of a six-year-old disabled child and a one year old, it took me about a week to complete it all," said Green of her work to put up all the decorations, only to have someone rip down most of the decorations early Monday morning.

"Quite a few of the strands got destroyed, so they're now in the trash can and I'm pretty sure none of the bulbs are going to work anymore," said Green.

"All these ornaments were scattered all the way across and I've been picking a bunch up here and there and putting them back in the box but they're broke," she added.

Some of the decorations had sentimental value, items that just can't be replaced.

"Broke the bottom off my snow globe. This belonged to my grandmother," Green said, showing a damaged snow globe.

Now Green is thinking about installing cameras outside. She says the neighborhood's had its share of problems.

"It's getting pretty well known for vandalism anymore," said Green.

That's not going to stop Green from salvaging what she can of her decorations and hanging them up again.

"Just pretty much made me bah-humbug myself for Christmas right now and yet I'm still going to do this for my kids and put it back together," Green added.

She's got a message for whoever is responsible.

"I hope they have a very very Merry Christmas is about all I can really say," said Green.

"This type of stuff is for kids and for anybody to destroy that, they don't have a heart," she added.

Now Green's got some work to do if her family's going to enjoy their Christmas decorations again.

"This is for my family and anybody who's ever loved Christmas," she said, getting ready to climb back up on a ladder and try to redecorate.
