INDIANAPOLIS — If you've been downtown lately, you might have noticed manhole covers have been painted a certain shade of green.
Well, it's not for St. Patrick's Day.
The Children's Museum of Indianapolis and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – OK, not the REAL heroes in a half-shell – have painted 248 manhole covers throughout downtown Indianapolis using 114 cans of spray paint to help promote a new exhibit starting Saturday.
Lead painter and Indianapolis visiting artist Ess McKee rallied more than a dozen others dressed as ninja turtles to paint the town green.
The exhibit, called "Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secrets of the Sewer," is set to be open from March 9 to Sept. 2. Participants will learn teamwork, collaboration and problem-solving while under the supervision of Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo.
Additionally, families will be able to explore the turtles' underground sanctuary, which features a kitchen for pizza parties, a living room and television to watch their favorite cartoons and a dojo to harness their ninja skills.
