INDIANA, USA — Two central Indiana cities have topped a recently-released list of the best places to live in the Midwest.

Livability.com, which describes itself as the "go-to resource for anyone looking to discover the best places to live, work and visit," releases a "Top 100 Best Places to Live in America" report each year, and in early September, the outlet highlighted the top 25 Midwest spots.

Two Hamilton County cities topped the list: Carmel and Fishers.

Livability.com said that Carmel stands out "due to its thriving economy, award-winning schools and excellent health care options, which translate into plentiful job opportunities." The outlet highlighted Carmel's "high safety rating" and "slower pace of life" while maintaining proximity to Indianapolis. It also pointed out the city's many trails, including the Monon Greenway.

"A place on the move" is how the site described Fishers, highlighting the city's "high-quality health care, some of the best schools in the state, an incredibly low crime rate, and a variety of amenities for both young professionals and families."

Among the amenities mentioned included restaurants, live entertainment and a "thriving business community." Livability.com also described the Nickel Plate District as a "one-stop area" for entertainment, shopping, dinning and outdoor activities.

Carmel and Fishers weren't the only Indiana cities on the list. Bloomington came in at No. 22. The site highlighted the "youthful energy, team spirit and campus amenities" that come with living in a college town.

It also had high praise for Bloomington's culinary scene, stating there are 75 international restaurants, as well as the city's walkable downtown and "shared love for arts and culture."
