SLEETH, Ind. — A child was seriously injured by an exploding firework in Carroll County Thursday.
According to the sheriff's office, one of the boy's parents called 911 shortly after 2:30 p.m. on July 4 to report a firework had exploded in the young child's face at his home in Sleeth, Indiana, near Delphi. Firefighters, medics and the sheriff's office responded to the call and quickly requested a medical helicopter to the scene to expedite treatment of the boy's injuries.
Police learned the boy was "a good distance away" from the firework when it exploded, but the charge had enough force that shrapnel was able to reach the child, causing severe injuries to his face.
No one else was injured in the incident.
