CARMEL, Ind. — Witnesses say lightning may be to blame for a fire that destroyed a Carmel home Friday night.

According to a social media post from the Carmel Fire Department and public police reporting systems, around 10:45 p.m. on Aug. 30, CFD was dispatched to the 2500 block of Tullamore Court, which is in a neighborhood near West 146th Street and Towne Road, on a report of a residence fire.

When firefighters arrived, they saw heavy flames and smoke coming out of the roof of the home. Crews began an interior attack as medics completed a primary search of the home. CFD says the fire was brought under control a short time later.

No one was injured in the blaze. Neighbors told firefighters they heard thunder and saw lightning strike around the area of the home about 20 minutes before they noticed the flames.

The Westfield Fire Department assisted CFD with the fire.
