Occupants flee after car takes out fire hydrant, crashes into south Indy house

The crash happened in the 200 block of Kansas Street, near West Morris Street and South Senate Avenue, just before noon Saturday.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers are investigating after they say a car took out a fire hydrant and crashed into a house Saturday morning on the city's near south side.

According to a social media post by the Indianapolis Fire Department, crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Kansas Street, near West Morris Street and South Senate Avenue, on a report of a vehicle into a house just before noon on Jan. 13.

IFD crews arrived and began to assess the structural damage of the house. IFD said no one was inside the house at the time of the crash, and the house's structural integrity was not compromised.

Witnesses told police they saw the car take out a fire hydrant before crashing into the house. Police said witnesses told them they saw people from the car fleeing the scene shortly after the crash.
