Car repossessed in Evansville with newborn inside

Officers initially thought the car was reported stolen and believed it was a kidnapping, but police quickly determined what really happened.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Police say a baby is safe after a car was repossessed with the newborn still inside.

It happened Thursday morning in Evansville.

Investigators initially thought the car was reported stolen and believed it was a kidnapping, but police quickly determined what really happened.

They say the driver of the tow truck pulled over and found the baby.

The car's driver said she stepped out of the car for a moment to drop off her son at day care. She said the little girl in the car was just 7 days old.

The driver is not facing any charges.
