INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - George Hill, who rose from the court at Broad Ripple High School to the NBA, is brainstorming ways to save his alma mater.
Hill, who now plays for the Utah Jazz, took to Twitter Wednesday night, looking for answers to keep the school open, despite the announcement Wednesday that IPS was closing the north side school and two other high schools in the district.
Hill, graduated from Broad Ripple in 2004 before attending IUPUI, where he starred for the Jaguars. He came to the Indiana Pacers in a draft day trade with the San Antonio Spurs in 2011 that sent Pacers' first rounder Kawhi Leonard to San Antonio. He played five seasons in Indiana before being traded to Utah.
Hill has spoken proudly of his public school education in Indianapolis in the past, taking an active role with the United Way's Hubbard Life-Changing Teacher Award program.
"I am true team IPS. I'm there through thick and thin. I continue to try to strive to bring kids up through that program and try to make them aware. Don't give up on it. If you believe you can do it, you can do it," Hill said in 2014.
If the IPS decision is finalized in September, Broad Ripple and the other high schools will close following the upcoming school year.
