Indianapolis bridal shop helps frantic customers after competitor's store abruptly closes

Gretchen's Bridal Gallery in Castleton closed recently, leaving customers without a way to speak with the business about their purchases.

INDIANAPOLIS — There is an update to a story you heard first on 13News about the sudden closure of a northeast side bridal business and the customers left worried when they couldn't pick up their orders.

Gretchen's Bridal Gallery in Castleton closed abruptly recently, leaving brides without a way to speak with the business about their dress purchases.

On Wednesday, the staff at Sophia's Bridal and Tux, near Keystone at the Crossing, was busy helping customers and said their phones have been ringing nonstop.

"Moms have been calling, friends have been calling. We've got DMs on Instagram. I mean, everywhere," said Cierra Frazier, Sophia's associate manager.

Sophia's said they immediately jumped in and uploaded a post on social media, offering to help as many brides as they can after hearing the news.

Frazier said she feels for these brides.

"A lot of the calls have been stressful," said Frazier. "We've even had two Gretchen's employees come in and contact us. They were also brides. They were told Saturday that this was their last day. Just a lot of panic. There have been a lot of tears. The conversations are usually very scattered, then it's very calm. It's like, 'OK we are going to help.'"

So far, they say they've helped 14 brides impacted by Gretchen's closing. They said they're focused on meeting brides where they are.

"First thing you need is to contact your bank and you can refute the charge if it hasn't been ordered. We are trying to reach out to designers and see if they already had their dress ordered. We might be able to counteract that and bring it here," said Frazier.

They hope the support will help some brides walk down the aisle, just as they planned.

"It's such a big day. The importance of the dress, some would say, is the most important thing. Being able to help them with that and better their experience has been joyful," said Frazier.

The people at Sophia's said any bride that is in need of help should email them with as many details as they can provide.
