LEBANON, Ind. (AP) — Central Indiana police say a small bridge collapsed into a pile of twisted metal as a tractor was crossing the span.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office says the bridge along Holiday Road collapsed Saturday evening as a John Deere tractor was crossing it in the county just northwest of Indianapolis. Deputies have closed the bridge to through traffic.

Deputies say the driver, a 34-year-old Indianapolis man, didn't realize that an implement attached to the tractor was wider than the bridge. He says the tractor was about three-quarters of the way across the span before he noticed the top beam of the bridge was shaking, and it collapsed.

The driver was able to escape the crash unharmed.
