17-year-old girl found dead in vehicle submerged in Monroe County pond

The incident remains under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 12.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a body was pulled from a car that was submerged in a pond north of Bloomington on Sunday.

According to a release from the MCSO, on Aug. 11, deputies responded to the 2500 block of North Stonelake Drive, which is near State Road 45 and Interstate 69, on a report of a car partially submerged in a pond. The Monroe County dive team, EMS and fire department all arrived at the scene and began to pull the car from the water. 

The only occupant of the vehicle was its driver, who was found dead inside. 

The Monroe County coroner identified the deceased as 17-year-old Ayana Addisu, of Bloomington.

The coroner's office performed an autopsy Monday, with her cause of death still pending. According to the coroner's office, Addisu's manner of death is believed to be suicide, and foul play is not suspected.
