A Bishop Chatard teacher died while chaperoning a spring break trip in Europe.
Theatre teacher Kyle Guyton was at a meal in Poland when he suffered an asthma attack and began to choke, according to a post on the school's Facebook page.
Guyton was also an alumnus of the school and had just joined the teaching staff this year.
Two days ago, Guyton was at his home church, Grace Apostolic Church at 22nd and College. During Sunday service, he was called to the front of the church and the congregation prayed for his safety on his trip to Poland.
His pastor was stunned by Tuesday's news.
"Shocked, saddened. Was waiting for some other source of confirmation, because I just couldn't believe it had happened to Kyle," said Rev. Kevin Harrison.
Those who knew Guyton, including Eyewitness News reporter Steve Jefferson, say the teacher "lived for and loved music."
"Kyle impacted everybody. Everybody," Harrison said. "He was gifted in so many areas. Musician, great when it came to technology, theater production and just a good son to his mother and his dad."
Harrison says parishioners at Grace Apostolic were not aware Guyton suffered from asthma. He hopes Guyton's death inspires other people to be like him.
Counselors will be available at the school and the chapel will be open Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 8 a.m. - noon. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
