A Ben Davis High School student is facing felony charges after an incident involving a gun at the school.
Jaquan Cameron-McMitchell, 18, was arrested after an altercation with an 18-year-old female student Wednesday morning. He was booked on preliminary charges of possessing a firearm on school property and carrying a handgun without a license, both felonies, as well as misdemeanor charges of intimidation and possession of marijuana.
A teacher noticed the students yelling at each other around 9 a.m. Wednesday as students moved between classes. As the students were being separated, the female student made claims that Cameron-McMitchell was carrying a gun and had made threats against her.
A search of Cameron-McMitchell's backpack turned up the 9mm gun. Police also listed ammunition and marijuana as evidence collected in their investigation.
The school's principal has recommended Cameron-McMitchell be expelled from school.
