INDIANAPOLIS — Belmont Beach in Haughville officially kicked off its fourth season Saturday.
The beach is located near the shores of the White River, near the intersection of North Belmont Avenue and North White River Parkway Drive West on Indy's near west side.
In the 1920's and 1930's, Belmont Beach was one of the only swimming spots for the Black residents of Indianapolis. It went ignored by the city for decades before being revived recently by the "Friends of Belmont Beach."
"Now I think with the fourth year, we know a lot of the history, now people are trying to enjoy this space," said Teddrick Hardy, president of Friends of Belmont Beach. "What can the park feel like? What can the joy feel like? What could this coming together look like in this space. "
There's plenty to do at Belmont Beach this season.
Movie nights will take place on the last Friday of each month and there will be a community garden plus gardening workshops. The beach will also be home to meditation classes and nature hikes.
