Beech Grove couple injured in early morning house fire

The man returned from walking a dog to find the one-story house on fire with his wife still inside.

A Beech Grove house fire Friday, Oct. 15, 2021 critically injured a woman inside and seriously injured her husband when returned from a walk to find the house burning.

BEECH GROVE, Ind. — A Beech Grove woman was critically injured and her husband sustained serious burns Friday morning in a house fire.

According to Beech Grove police, the man was walking a dog around 6:15 a.m. Friday and returned to find the house on fire. His wife was inside in a bedroom and had to be rescued by firefighters, who battled heavy smoke and fire at the single-story house on 4th Avenue, near Emerson and Churchman avenues in Beech Grove.

The woman sustained more serious burns than her husband, who tried to enter the house when he returned from the walk. 

Authorities have not shared the couple's names.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Three cats died in the fire, according to police.
