Bathroom mirrors removed from North Carolina middle school after students caught making TikTok videos during class time

District officials said they have seen a decrease in bathroom visits from students since removing the mirrors.

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. — An Alamance County middle school has made some changes this week.

Bathroom mirrors were removed from Southern Middle School after students were caught making TikTok videos during class time, according to Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS).

The district said that since removing the mirrors, the school has seen a drastic decrease in bathroom visits from students asking to be excused to make videos.

"Though this is an adjustment, we believe these changes will foster better learning by minimizing disruptions," the district said.

The school has also started using Smart Pass, a digital hall pass system integrated with the Clever learning software. The district made it clear that it was at no additional cost to the District/School since it was part of their existing software.

The pass allows students to check in and out when leaving class, so teachers know where students are at all times for safety and accountability.
