Bartholomew County REMC worker recovering after suffering electric shock

The worker is recovering in the burn ward of an Indianapolis hospital and is reportedly doing well.

COLUMBUS, Ind. — A Bartholomew County REMC worker is recovering after being injured by an electric shock. 

According to the Columbus Fire Department, around 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 18, firefighters responded to the intersection of Lakecrest Drive and Shadow Creek Boulevard on a report of a person injured by an electric shock.

Firefighters assisted EMS personnel with a man reported to be an employee with Bartholomew County REMC, which stands for rural electric membership corporation. The man appeared confused and slightly combative after the shock, according to firefighters. 

The worker was transported to the Bartholomew County Fairgrounds, where he was transported via helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital. 

According to the Bartholomew County REMC, the worker is doing well, and the health care team reports an optimistic and positive outlook. The worker is currently recovering at the burn unit of an Indianapolis hospital and receiving specialized care.
