FISHERS, Ind. (WTHR) - A Ball State student who was critically injured in a hit-and-run during Spring Break is back in Indiana.

Drew Akers, a 21-year-old junior at Ball State, has been in Florida for the past five weeks, recovering in the hospital and then in a rehab facility.

On Monday, Drew finally returned to Fishers, surrounded by support. His loved ones packed into his home, wearing "Team Drew" shirts.

The streets of his neighborhood were lined with blue ribbons and there was a "Drew Strong" banner strung across the garage.

Drew will still need to undergo outpatient therapy in the weeks ahead. But his family says he's made remarkable progress and his memory is back. Police are still looking for the driver who hit Drew last month in Fort Lauderdale and then took off.
