INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - IMPD says the case of a baby injured at a local day care is now in the hands of the Marion County prosecutor's office.
The parents of one-year-old Jesse Harris said they were pleased at the development but say there's still a lot they don't know, like what charges could come from the alleged incident and who those charges could be filed against.
The cuts and bruises have started to heal but signs remain of the injuries Jesse’s parents say he got last week at Kiddie Garden Day Care.
"Childcare is supposed to be a home away from home and it's supposed to be guaranteed safety," said Tiffany, Jesse's mom.
The parents found Jesse bruised and battered at the day care last Monday. An employee had called to say the boy was injured. The parents say the employee claimed another child, a 2 year old, had hurt Jesse.
'I want them all accountable because I feel like each and every one, the director, the owner and the individual, the caretaker is responsible and they should be held accountable," said Tiffany.
IMPD and CPS have both been investigating the alleged incident. The state closed the day care last week saying it posed “an immediate threat to the life and well-being of children” in the facility, indicating the order was related to the serious injury of a child due to lack of supervision.
The daycare's owners said in a statement last week they were cooperating with the investigation.
"Hopefully, they'll prosecute it justly,” said Jesse, the baby’s father. “It's not just a slap on the wrist. Hopefully, this sets the example for any other person that tries, that abuses a child or neglects a child at a daycare or provides childcare."
While the physical scars on little Jesse continue to heal, the emotional ones for his parents are still very raw.
"Every time I look at my son, I just think of the pain he went through and how he felt at that moment and why mommy wasn't there, why mommy brought me here," said Tiffany.
Eyewitness News reached out to the prosecutor's office Monday and have not received a response. We also talked by phone with the owner of the daycare. He told us he had not heard anything and would therefore have no comment.
