INDIANAPOLIS — You probably wouldn't be surprised to learn that the parents who named their child "Paris Olympia" are big sports fans. They have a particular regard for the Olympics.
Paris Olympia McSwine was born Monday night - arriving six weeks sooner than expected - and is being cared for in the NICU at Indianapolis' Riley Children's Health.
The hospital says Paris is growing from a birth weight of four pounds, six ounces.
Staff at the NICU decorated Paris' room with American flag banners and a gold medal and there's an Olympic torch in her bassinet, all to the delight of Paris' mom, Sarajevo Olympia Anderson.
That's right. Paris isn't the first in her family to be named in honor of the Games.
During the 1984 Olympics, Sarajevo's grandfather chose that name for her as the Winter Games were taking place in Yugoslavia. So when the blessed event here happened this week, parents Sarajevo Anderson and Michael McSwine gave their daughter a fitting name.
"She's our miracle baby," Anderson said.
Anderson and McSwine previously lost two sons to stillbirth. Last year, Anderson suffered a miscarriage.
"She's more than a rainbow baby, she's like our galaxy baby. Her two brothers paved the way for her," said Anderson.
Anderson said she’s had the Olympics on her entire hospital stay. She's rooting for the U.S. women’s volleyball team to get the gold.
And the family is already making Olympic-themed travel plans. As Paris turns four in 2028, they plan to attend the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
