Avondale Meadows celebrates completion of new $5 million school facility

Avondale Meadows Middle School cut the ribbon on its new $5 million building today.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) Some middle schoolers will soon have a new place to go to school after spending last year in a temporary location.

Avondale Meadows Middle School cut the ribbon on its new $5 million building.

It's a tuition free middle school that just opened in 2017.

The 180 students enrolled there will soon be able to go to class in one of the school's 15 classrooms.

It has 35,000 square feet available for learning.

However, the principal said it's intentionally a small school, so they can have close relationship with the families they serve.

"I was talking to a couple of students who go here, just before this started, I asked them what their favorite thing about the middle school was," said Joe White with The Mind Trust. "Chrystal, I don't think you'll be shocked by this. They said it feels like family. "

The school hopes to expand and eventually serve as many as 300 students.
