DANVILLE, Ind — A man from Avon has been sentenced to 41 years in prison after attempting to kill a deputy in 2022.
Gary Edward Miller, 41, from Avon was driving a truck when a Hendricks County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputy was in a "high rate of speed chase," according to the HCSO.
The officer was driving through an intersection with emergency lights activated when the truck angled toward the deputy's car and "deliberately struck the driver door."
Both of the vehicles were pushed off of the roadway. Miller then fled the scene and was eventually taken into custody after a foot pursuit with K9 assistance.
Prosecuting Attorney Loren P. Delp presented the case and said they are grateful the deputy "is with us today."
A jury found Miller guilty for attempted murder in under two hours of deliberation.
