INDIANAPOLIS — The ice rink at Holliday Park hosted a special skating event Sunday for children with autism or sensory issues.
This is the second time the rink has worked with Ausome Indy. Organizers make sure families have extra time to get on and off the ice in order to ensure a comfortable experience for skaters.
Ellen Miller, co-founder of Ausome Indy, said they started the event for children but have found it does even more for families.
"We wanted to be able to provide these experiences that neurotypical families get to experience," Miller said. "That can be a little bit more difficult for our (neurodivergent) families, and so what we have found is that this really supports those families as well."
Ausome Indy hosts events year-round to support kids with autism and their families, like visits with Santa and the Easter Bunny.
