ANDERSON (WTHR) - A large fire at Applecreek Apartments on the city's south side left up to 18 residents without a home Tuesday.
Black smoke was pouring from a building when firefighters arrived. Anderson Fire Chief Dave Cravens happened to be a few blocks away when the call came in just after noon, and he was one of the first firefighters at the scene.
The apartments are located on 60th Street near Columbus Ave.
Everyone made it out safely, but Chief Cravens says some pets may have been injured or killed in the fire.
It took firefighters 90 minutes to put out the fire, which destroyed the building. Firefighters are still looking into a cause.
The Red Cross of Greater Indianapolis confirms they were called in to help 13-18 displaced people.
