CARMEL, Ind. — A store in Carmel announced Tuesday that it is closing its doors.

All Things Carmel, located at 110 West Main St. #114, is owned and operated by a nonprofit organization in the Carmel Arts and Design District.

The store was managed by Promote Carmel, Inc., a 501(c)(3) that was started by former Mayor Jim Brainard in 2020, according to a news release.

Due to obligations made by the previous administration, city officials said an additional $100,000 would be required this year to fund the nonprofit beyond the $200,000 subsidy in Brainard's last budget.

The city has decided to redirect the funds granted to the nonprofit to "other key priorities."

“Because of inflation and a higher cost of living, Carmel taxpayers have had to tighten their belts. It is my responsibility to do the same with our city budget,” Mayor Sue Finkam said. “Although the program has been a vibrant addition to the Carmel Arts & Design District, today’s financial climate requires us to prioritize important expenditures such as police and fire staffing and road maintenance.”

Due to the city's decision, the Promote Carmel board of directors decided to close All Things Carmel. The store's staff was notified of the decision Tuesday, Aug. 20.

“The store was a labor of love for many individuals," Tim Griffin, board chair of Promote Carmel, Inc., said. "The leadership of the Promote Carmel, Inc. and the City of Carmel thank them for their support.”

Once the store takes an inventory, city officials said its products will either be donated or sold online.
