INDIANAPOLIS — Customs officers seized several shipments of gun parts and items used in manufacturing firearm parts in Indianapolis last week.
Ten shipments containing 56 types of gun parts and accessories used to manufacture them were seized Dec. 7 and Dec. 8 as they arrived in Indianapolis from Israel and Spain. The shipments were ultimately heading to residences in Florida, Iowa, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. They did not have the proper permits required to import the parts.
Officials said the seized items included grips, sights, swivels, slings, rifle stocks and conversion kits.
According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the importer did not appear to be a federally licensed firearms manufacturer or dealer.
“The importing of any type of munitions is regulated by the ATF,” said Indianapolis port director Jeremy Brodsky. “This seizure highlights the outstanding work our (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) officers perform every day in preventing illegal firearms from reaching our local communities.”
