INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Public Library welcomed a special guest Saturday for the organization's "Fall Fest" and "Slammin' Rhymes Challenge."
Actress Kim Fields was the keynote speaker during IndyPL's festivals to help support and celebrate their Center for Black Literature and Culture.
During her speech, Fields said the end of the year is "like being in the fourth quarter of a game." She encouraged those in the audience to reflect on their goals for next year.
"You're either winning or you're not," said Fields during her address. "If you're not, what are you going to do to try to win? If you're winning, what are you going to do to keep winning?"
Fields, best known as "Tootie" in the hit 1980s sitcom "The Facts of Life," took a moment on stage to go live on her Instagram page to sing "Happy Birthday" to Indianapolis native Mike Epps, who turned 53 on Saturday.
Fields co-stars with Epps on the Netflix comedy "The Upshaws," which is set in Indianapolis.
Also at Saturday's event, kids had a chance to perform their winning entries from the "Slammin' Rhymes Challenge" while local musicians provided live music and entertainment.
