WHITLEY COUNTY, Ind. — A northern Indiana man was killed while picking up trash in front of his house after he was struck by a minivan Friday afternoon.
According to a release from Indiana State Police, around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17, Carl W. Moehle, 83, of Roanoke, was picking up trash in the roadway of the 6500 block of State Road 114 in North Manchester.
ISP's preliminary investigation showed that a 39-year-old Huntington woman was driving a white 2009 Chrysler van along the roadway and struck Moehle. Police say the woman swerved to the left to avoid hitting Moehle, but could not do so in time. Moehle was reportedly thrown into a ditch after he was struck.
Medics pronounced Moehle dead at the scene.
Police say the 39-year-old woman fully cooperated with police and was transported to a nearby hospital for a blood draw.
The investigation is currently ongoing, according to police.
