JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind — A solar panel factory coming to southeastern Indiana is expected to create around 1,200 jobs.

Canadian Solar Inc. announced Tuesday it will be establishing a solar panel production facility at the River Ridge Commerce Center in Jeffersonville.

In total, $800 million is being invested into the project, which is expected to begin production by the end of 2025.

"Indiana's strong advanced manufacturing sector positions the state to help lead the global energy transition, developing and powering new solutions in batteries, solar and hydrogen," Gov. Eric Holcomb said. "Canadian Solar's new U.S. location in Jeffersonville will put our skilled Hoosier workforce at the center of cultivating solar power, making energy-efficient panels more accessible to consumers across the country."

Mike Moore, the Jeffersonville mayor, is happy to welcome the global industry leader into the community.

"The city of Jeffersonville is pleased that Canadian Solar has chosen River Ridge Commerce Center as home for their newest critical production facility in the United States," Moore said. " When in full production, their total employment base will include over 150 engineers at this facility."

This project is the largest single investment in the history of River Ridge.
