600 high school students take the Polar Plunge at Eagle Creek

Some were dressed in costume Friday.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - The chill in the air at Eagle Creek Park didn't stop the effort to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Indiana.

The Polar Plunge brought together people for a leap into Eagle Creek Reservoir. Some were dressed in costume.

Most of them emerged quickly from the freezing water.

For this two-day event, more than 600 high school and middle school students from across central Indiana took part.

They'll do more of the same beginning at 8:00 Saturday morning.
