'500 Fan Fuel' encourages race fans to support local restaurants

Call it “The Greatest Spectacle in... Food!”

SPEEDWAY, Ind. — Call it “The Greatest Spectacle in... Food!”

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has come up with a promotion called “500 Fan Fuel” that encourages race fans to support local restaurants leading up Sunday’s Indy 500.

“It’s a way for diners to race into some of the local restaurants to support them,” says promoter Susan Decker, the mastermind behind the promotion. “It's a great way to get some dining deals to dine in or also to take carry out.“

This two-week program features more than 90 restaurants in central Indiana that are offering exclusive deals at some of race fans’ favorite eateries.

“Now more than ever, this pandemic has obviously affected everyone in various ways,” says Bryn Jones, the Vice President of Marketing for Harry & Izzy’s, one of the restaurants taking part in 500 Fan Fuel. “For us, it's really taken a hit and a lot of restaurants you're seeing aren't surviving right now. So whatever you can do to go out and try a restaurant that you've never eaten at before, that you've never seen before, you're not even familiar with. It’s important as a community we rally around each other, and we support each other, and I think that's what's happening here with 500 Fan Fuel. It is a way to give people a reason to come out, and in our world, we're doing everything we can to make sure that it's a safe and inviting experience.”

Fans are reminded to be responsible by wearing their #500Fashion face masks, maintaining proper social distancing and choosing outdoor seating where available.
