3 weeks later, crews still searching for boy lost in Delphi creek

Repeated rains over the past month have hampered recovery efforts for Owen Jones, who disappeared in Deer Creek in late May.

DELPHI, Ind. (WTHR) - It has now been 23 days since 4-year-old Owen Jones went missing after being swept way in Deer Creek in Delphi.

Crews have not been able to recover his body.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural resources, at least one officer has been on the water every day searching for him.

Owen’s family says the past three weeks have been agonizing, waiting for closure.

"It’s the not knowing that’s the hardest,” said Britiney Jones, Owen’s mother. “To me, he is not gone until he is actually gone and I don’t have any proof, and so I need proof.”

Conservation officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said Owen went into Deer Creek at Riley Park around 6 p.m. May 23.

Repeated rains over the past month have hampered recovery efforts.

Jones’ family says they have received an outpouring of support from family, friends and strangers.

“I would say if it wasn’t for all the support that we have been getting, we wouldn’t be doing as well as we are,” Britiney said. “It really helps just getting messages from people just saying there are people praying for you all over the country.”

Owen’s parents have not been able to resume working since the ordeal. A fundraiser has been set up to assist the family.
