3 people rescued from manhole in Hancock County

HANCOCK COUNTY, Indiana — Three people were rescued from a manhole in Hancock County Monday morning.

The incident was reported around 8 a.m. Aug. 5 in the 2200 block of West Bedrock Lane, near U.S. 40 and South 200 West, and roughly four miles west of Greenfield.

Responding crews, including from the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department, were called for a "confined space rescue of an unconscious male and two other employees in a manhole," the department said in a social media post.

Firefighters and paramedics lowered oxygen to a semi-conscious male, which improved his condition, the department said. 

The three people were then able to get out of the hole with assistance at 8:20 a.m., and one was taken to a local hospital.
