MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) — Three Muncie police officers have been indicted by the FBI.
According to a release, Chase Winkle, Jeremy Gibson and Joe Krejsa are the officers involved.
Winkle is facing nine felony offenses for over excessive force with someone arrested. One of the four arrestees he's accused of using excessive force on suffered serious injuries while another was knocked unconscious. He is also accused of writing false reports about the incidents.
Gibson is facing one felony for escessive force when he allegedly stomped on and kneed an arrestee’s head.
Krejsa is facing two felonies for writing false reports about Winkle’s alleged excessive force incidents.
The officers face 10 years in prison for each of the excessive force incidents and up to 20 years for each time they made a false report.
Last month, Winkle was placed on unpaid suspension. Gibson and Krejsa were both on active duty at the time of indictment but will be placed on administrative leave.
The Muncie Police Department Administration and the Mayor have been aware of the ongoing federal investigation and have "fully cooperated."
