CARMEL, Ind. (WTHR) — Firefighters worked to put out a house fire on Jennings Drive on the east side of Carmel early Monday morning.
The home is near the intersection of Main Street and Gray Road.
Three people, including a Carmel Police officer, were taken to the hospital.
The fire started around 4:30 a.m.
A woman and her son were home at the time. She helped get him out of the house before she climbed out herself from an upstairs window.
Both mother and son were taken to the hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation and cuts and bruises. Carmel Fire spokesman Tim Griffin told Eyewitness News they are believed to be okay.
The Carmel officer who assisted the woman and her son was also treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution, and is expected to recover.
Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the windows of the two story home when they arrived.
Investigators have not determined what started the fire.
