INDIANAPOLIS — Thousands of firefighters are in town right now for the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC).
On Friday, April 19, hundreds of attendees took part in the 2024 FDIC 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Lucas Oil Stadium.
The climb started to honor the hundreds of firefighters who died during the Sept. 11 attacks.
Since then, Victor Stagnaro, with the Fallen Fire Fighters Foundation, says its mission has grown.
"It not only commemorates their courage, but it also contributes to support the families of fallen firefighters through the funding that's received for everybody who climbs today," Stagnaro said. "They've paid a fee to get a shirt, to get a badge to remember that firefighter. But those funds go directly back to support the families of fallen firefighters."
Climbers went up 110 flights of stairs in honor of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives in the attack.
