2 teens injured, 1 critically, after moped crashes into tree in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ind. — Two teen girls were injured, one critically, when a moped crashed into a tree in Richmond Thursday night.

The crash was reported around 9:45 p.m. May 30 at Clear Creek Park in the 1200 block of West Main Street, near Southwest 13th Street. 

Two 17-year-old girls on the Honda moped suffered serious injuries in the crash and were taken to Reid Hospital in Richmond.

The driver of the moped was later airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and was most recently listed in critical condition, the Richmond Police Department said in a statement.

The passenger was described by police as "stable" at Reid Hospital.

The Richmond Police Department said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.

"Our thoughts are with the families of the injured teenagers during this difficult time," assistance chief of police Adam Blanton said.
