2 pets dead, 2 rescued after northeast Indianapolis house fire

Two firefighters sustained slight injuries, but were treated and released at the scene.

INDIANAPOLIS — Crews are working to find out what caused a house fire on the northeast side of Indianapolis Thursday afternoon.

The fire broke out shortly after 3 p.m. at a home in the 4100 block of Ruckle Street, near East 40th Street and North College Avenue. Crews responded to multiple 911 calls about the fire and arrived to find heavy fire and smoke coming from the two-story home.

Firefighters said no one was home when the fire broke out. The family of four who has lived in the home for 20 years, told firefighters they are unsure what may have caused the fire.

Fifteen IFD units had the fire under control in a little over 20 minutes, according to an IFD spokesperson.

Sadly, IFD reported two animals died in the fire. Two other animals were rescued by firefighters.

Two firefighters sustained slight injuries, but were treated and released at the scene.

The fire caused some damage to the exterior of a neighboring home but not enough to displace the people who live there.
