Coroner identifies man, woman killed in Johnson County crash

Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash involving a motorcycle and pickup truck at State Roads 135 and 44 near Bargersville around 7:30 p.m. Monday.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. — Two people died in a a crash in Johnson County Monday evening.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at State Roads 135 and 44 near Bargersville around 7:30 p.m. July 29.

According to Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Ford F-450 truck were involved in the crash. 

The driver of the truck, as well as witnesses, said the truck had a green light and was waiting to turn south onto State Road 135 when the motorcycle disregarded a red stop light and hit the driver's side of the truck.

Michael Merriman, 56, of Indianapolis, and Melissa Fidler, 46, of Indianapolis, both died in the crash. 

The intersection of State Roads 135 and 44 was closed while police investigated the crash scene.

Investigators said the crash occurred on a busy roadway and was one of the worst they've seen in some time.

"Be very careful. You never know what anyone else is doing out here," Johnson County Sheriff's Department Maj. Andy Fisher said. "Check intersections. It's becoming a problem, people going through red lights."

The Trafalgar Police Department assisted Johnson County deputies at the crash scene, along with firefighters from Bargersville and Trafalgar.
